If you like Beck, you’ll love these guys
Are you a fan of gloomy American indie music?
You are? Very good. We’ve got a treat for you today, then. This band are called Clique. They’re an American four-piece, and they sound quite a lot like this:
Not bad at all, eh?
We rather like them. That’s why we asked them to put together a little playlist of a few of their favourite songs, exclusively for your listening pleasure. We even got them to tell us a little bit about why they like ’em:
Bedhead – More Than Ever
‘When I first heard this song I just listened to it over and over again. I feel like I never heard enough about Bedhead.
Pinback – Loro
‘There’s an hour-long loop of this riff on YouTube if you’re ever trying to get high and zone the fuck out.Â
Pedro The Lion – Second Best
‘Painful song on a painful album. One time I skipped work and listened to this record all day. Sabrina came over and saw me laying in my bed half-dressed; she said it was quite the sight…Â
Modest Mouse – Broke
‘One time PJ and I stayed up really late drinking and showing all of our favorite Modest Mouse songs at each other. There are so many. We both really like this one.Â
Built to Spill – Center of the Universe
‘I don’t know what to say. It’s Built to Spill.Â
Duster – Constellations
‘Favourite song to walk around to. It’s really beautifully minimal, and it always makes me feel like a dumbass little kid staring up at the sky.
Guided By Voices – A Good Flying Bird
‘This not to say that we were not the worst we’ve ever been.Â
My Bloody Valentine – Only Shallow
‘This song fucks me up. It’s a pretty straightforward punk song, but it sounds like nothing else I’ve ever heard.
Pavement – Range Life
‘Silly verses with such a somber hook. The dichotomy of wanting to get away from the city but being unable to make the move or control impulses is something that I relate to. I’m probably reading too much into it…
Lilys – Coby
‘My favorite song to drive to. PJ puts this one on in the car all the time – it’s one of the reasons why I love him so.Â
Here’s a Spotify playlist of all of the songs (except for a couple of them, because they’re not available on Spotify. Sorry about that.):
