There Are A Fair Few Reasons Why We Can’t Wait For The Wombats’ Massive UK Tour

Do you remember The Wombats?

Bah, of course you do. After all, it’s been damn near impossible to forget about them over the course of the last decade. Not only did they put out one of the strongest indie albums of the Noughties, but they’ve spent the last ten years following it up with tracks that have been harder to get out of your head than a badly-aimed blade at a knife-thrower’s show.

They’re probably even better than ever right now

Yes, we know that it’s a bold statement, but do bear with us. Not only have they just released an album that’s chock-a-block full of indie anthems, perfect pop songs, and a couple of successful executions of the oft-attempted-but-rarely-mastered ‘sad-banger’, but they also happen to be one of the best live indie-rock bands making the rounds right now.

They’re just about to kick off a huge UK headline tour, and we think that it’s going to be pretty great. Why, you ask? Well, dear reader, just read on and find out…

1) Their new album is the best thing they’ve done for ages

They’ve left behind the synthesisers and gone back to what they do best: cranking out rock-solid indie-pop songs with lyrics that make you chuckle and choruses the size of skyscrapers. We’ve had it on repeat since it came out, and we can’t wait to hear what songs like this sound like in the live arena:

2) Did we mention that they’re a flippin’ incredible live band?

Between all of us here at One on One HQ, we’ve seen more than our fair share of live bands. Some have been old. Some have been new. Heck, once upon a time, we even saw Blue.

What we’re trying to say is that we’ve seen enough live acts to know a good one when they’re placed in front of us; and, by God, are The Wombats a good one. Don’t believe us? Check this out and see for yourselves:

3) They wrote all of our favourite Noughties indie disco anthems

Kill The Director. Let’s Dance To Joy Division. Backfire At The Disco. Oh, and need we even mention this stone-cold classic?

4) They’re probably in the form of their lives right now

The guys have just sold out their biggest-ever headline show – at London’s 10,000-capacity Alexandra Palace, no less – and we can only see them getting bigger and better from here.

They’re hitting the festival circuit with a vengeance this summer, too, and we’ve got a funny feeling that they’ll turn out to be a lot of people’s highlights of the summer; heck, in all honesty, we think that you’d be a fool to miss them right now.

5) SERIOUSLY, HAVE YOU FORGOTTEN HOW MANY STONE-COLD BANGERS THEY’VE GOT?!

We’ll leave you with this one.

The Wombats play Bristol’s O2 Academy on Wednesday March 28th.
