Australia’s DMA’S Have Made You A Fantastically Rock-Heavy Playlist Of Their Favourite Songs

We’re liking these Australian boys

We’ve got a real soft spot for DMA’S. There’s just something about them that we adore. Could it be their unashamedly Anglophilic approach to crafting solid-gold indie-rock anthems that sound like they came crashing straight out of 1996? Perhaps. Might it have something to do with the fact that each and every one of their tracks has a chorus, or a guitar line, or a melody, that just refuses to leave our minds for many hours afterwards? Maybe.

Heck, could it just be that they look cool, and they sound cool, and that they’re precisely the sort of band that make ten-year-old kids want to pick up a guitar in their bedrooms and make music for themselves? Well, yes, we think that might have something to do with it.

They’ve got top taste in tuneage, too

D’you know what we like more than anything, though? We like that the band’s frontman, Tommy O’Dell, has put together a playlist of his favourite songs for us – and, what’s more, that it’s seriously good. You can check out Tommy‘s full playlist at the bottom of this page: but, for now, here’s a few words from the man himself to explain why he chose a handful of the tracks from his selection:

Bob Dylan – Isis

‘One of my all time favourite tunes. When I listen to it I forget everything else and get swept away in the incredible lyrics. It’s the ultimate story about marriage, I believe.

Paul Kelly – From St Kilda to Kings Cross

Paul Kelly is, in my opinion, Australia’s best songwriter, and this tune sums this up. Amazing lyrics, great story… It makes me think about friendship and travel. For some reason I feel sad when I hear this tune. It’s kind of a melancholy sadness, I guess.

Primal Scream – Come Together

‘This typifies every dance/pop song for me and there are not many late nights out where I don’t blare this one out. It has some of my favourite production ever on this song. I hope to write and produce a song like this one day.

Oasis – Listen Up

‘My favourite Oasis song. This song is why I love the band. Perfect melody, perfect delivery.

My Bloody Valentine – Soon

‘Awsome shoegaze/noisy guitars with a drum beat that gives it a unbelievable consistent groove. The reason why I got into shoegaze music and a huge influence on me.
