If you’d have told us at the start of this year that 2020’s defining indie-funk moment would arrive courtesy of a 17-year-old from Bedfordshire, we probably would’ve laughed at you.
And yet, that’s precisely what Alfie Templeman has delivered with his new single, ‘Shady‘.
It’s a throbbing affair and one in which Alfie’s penchant for a catchy chorus is married with Jungle’s knack for making everything they touch turn to pre-drinks-ready gold. Pulsing basslines are paired with layers of reverberated synths and subtle melodic refrains before the entire track is tied together by a lyric that encourages the listener to cut the nonsense out of their life.
‘It’s about trying to stay true to me, doing what I wanna do in my life, and trying to avoid all the arguments and shady people that come with it’, explains Alfie. ‘No more negativity, more making sense of the past, and more of enjoying what the present has to offer.”
