He’s absolutely nailed it, hasn’t he?
Meet Cat Reynolds. He’s a London-based singer-songwriter who hails from Limerick, Ireland, and he writes the sort of fragile, heartfelt folk-pop music that seems custom-made to soundtrack the sight of your lying alone in a darkened room and thinking wistfully about every choice you ever made.
.
He sounds pretty good, doesn’t he?
Well, strap yourselves in, dear reader, for he’s only gone and recorded a special live version of that very track for our oft-imitated, never-repeated Selfie Sessions series.
The song in question is called ‘Never Wanted To Stay’. If you asked us to describe it, we’d tell you that it’s a euphoric, piano-driven folk-pop song with absolutely zero in the way of hidden meanings or deep, introspective lyrical musings. If you asked Cat, however, he’d probably say something like this:
‘The song sounds quite upbeat and jovial but the lyrics are not so much. This kind of mirrors how I was. I was floating through life with a smile on my face but really internally I was not having the best time. I want people to realise that sometimes the best thing to do is just let life happen. I think people will get different things out of the song and I like that.’
