On Today’s Menu, Our Chef’s Special: The Soup Dragons Return After 30 Years For A UK Tour

Returning to the stage after an absence of over 30 years, The Soup Dragons are back with their original lineup

The Scottish psychedelic punk rockers served huge success with their hit indie anthem ‘I’m Free’, racking up MTV award nominations as well as Top 20 hit records. They were leading lights in the so-called C-86 music scene (named after an NME-produced cassette compilation). And now, Sean Dickson, Ross Sinclair, Sushil K Dade and Jim McCulloch are hitting the road this Autumn to take everything back to basics with a return to their effervescent guitar pop.

Even if you’re not the biggest fan of Scottish cuisine, you’ll want a taste of this

In the winter of 2022, the band released RAW TV PRODUCTS (SINGLES AND RARITIES 1985-88). The compilation album is an overview of their highly successful pre-“I’m Free” Indie years, and it did pretty well for them. The album went Top 5 in the Scottish album charts, garnered plenty of praise, and the ensuing wave of enthusiasm convinced the band to bring their music back to the stage once more.

“We were all teenagers at the time!”, recalls lead singer Sean Dickson, “We hit the ground running and basically made it up as we went along… We didn’t follow the rules then and we still don’t.”

“We’re aiming to capture the energy and sound of those early records”, states guitarist Jim McCulloch, “and to do what we did best – playing live and loud!”
