Ella Thompson Has Recorded A Striking Version of ‘To Light The Lantern’ For Our Selfie Sessions

Attention all One on One residents, we’ve got another Selfie Session ready and waiting for you. So, come and brighten your day with a listen to Ella Thompson’s ‘To Light The Lantern’.

Ella Thompson’s neo-soul single ‘To Light The Lantern’ is beautifully crafted and impressively demonstrates her songwriting abilities. It’s the first release ahead of Ella’s new album, ‘Domino’, which comes out on November 3rd. We can’t wait to hear what else she’s got in store for us.

Ella has the unique ability to create songs that convey emotion in vivid detail. Perhaps it’s her incredible voice, perhaps it’s talented songwriting, or perhaps it’s just Ella.

Raised in the subtropical haven of Bellingen, Australia, Thompson grew up immersed in creativity and song. Her career has seen her traverse genres to work alongside greats, including The Bamboos and Mark Ronson, and tour with personal idol Renee Geyer.

‘To Light The Lantern’ is a compelling and vulnerable exploration of hope, inspired by 70s Italian Giallo film soundtracks to fuse soul influenced melodies.

If you, like us, had never heard of a Giallo film before, it is “a stylish and violent crime thriller hailing from Italy” – and if that’s what this song is meant to evoke, it’s fair to say that Ella has absolutely smashed it.

The verses sound as though you’re mid-escape and quietly tiptoeing in a field of sound-sensored alarms, before being overcome with the contrast of serene relief when you’ve made it to safety.

But that’s enough of us for one day. Check out this Selfie Session of Ella performing ‘To Light The Lantern’ for yourself.
