Pretty Woman at Theatre Royal, Plymouth: an enchanting evening of world-class theatre

It’s quite hard to dislike Pretty Woman.

If you’re not familiar with the story, it’s a timeless tale of a passionate and unlikely love affair between a wealthy businessman and a spirited, urm ‘lady of the night’. It’s a Hollywood classic, and one that’s beloved in the world over for its effortless charm, edge-of-your-seat narrative, and enduring message that nothing in this world is more powerful than love.

Which, naturally, makes it prime fodder for a contemporary musical theatre revival, soundtracked by Bryan Adams and Jim Vallance. And, dear reader, we’re delighted to report that this particular revival – which has arrived in Plymouth as part of a wide-ranging UK and Ireland tour – is one that’s positively brimming with charm, romance, and irresistible energy.

It’s a classic for a reason – and at the Theatre Royal, Plymouth, the West End-standard touring production breathed a new life into a Hollywood classic, dazzling everyone in attendance and leaving every single member of the sold-out audience longing for more by the time the final curtain fell.

At the heart of the production was the radiant performance of Amber Davies as Vivian Ward. Davies embodied the role with a captivating blend of vulnerability and strength, infusing each scene with a sense of authenticity and emotional depth. From her infectious laughter to her poignant moments of introspection, Davies commanded the stage with grace and charisma, winning over the rampant audience from the very start.

Props must go to the theatre itself, too. There’s a reason why it’s one of the best-loved regional theatres in the country; its vast yet intimate layout enveloped the audience, inviting them deep into the narrative and nurturing a profound bond between the actors and the crowd.

So, if you get the chance to catch Pretty Woman: The Musical at the Theatre Royal, Plymouth, make sure you don’t miss out. It’s only there until April 20th, so you’ll have to be quick; but we can promise that it’ll be an evening you’ll never forget.
