We had a chat with The Enemy frontman Tom Clarke about their new album, coming home to Coventry and recording with Joby from The Bronx.
You’ve just played a tiny homecoming show in Coventry to film the video for your new single Gimme The Sign – how was it?
Gig was probably the best we’ve ever played, new stuff went down well!
How’s the new album sounding?
Sounds as singalong as the first but with bigger guitars than the second!
Was it easy to write and record?
It’s taken absolutely ages to write. It was hard work. We wrote thirty songs and got it down to the best ten or eleven. The recording part was much easier; once we found Joby from The Bronx it all fell into place.
Who were your main musical influences growing up?
The Stones, Bowie, and Oasis.
Which song do you wish you had written?
Hey Jude… Life On Mars… Wonderwall… Great tracks, just great tunes.
Have you got any advice for new bands starting off at the moment?
Be prepared to battle in a biased unfair industry and don’t be disheartened by anybody!
What are you listening to at the moment?
M-83 and The Bronx. Joby from The Bronx produced our record – he’s a great guy.
Would you ever consider writing a musical or a concept album?
I love a good concept album, but it’s not really what our band’s about. We’re more… Rock and roll.
How do you feel about the support you get from your fans?
The support our fans give us is epic. Our fans are the most loyal fans I’ve ever encountered and I love them all. They make The Enemy what it is – we do our small part, but the band ultimately belongs to the fans.
When are you guys gonna announce some tour dates?!
I’m waiting to be able to tell everyone that! I was having a conversation about it just before I started doing this interview! Hopefully soon! We can’t wait!
