You’ve been on tour with Jessie J! How’s it been?
It’s been incredible. She’s such an amazing talent! I stayed yesterday to watch her show for the first time and I was absolutely blown away – she’s so inspirational. It’s been great so far.
How have the crowds been responding to your set?
They’re been amazing. I think the crowd today at The Eden Sessions were the best of the entire tour so far.
Your new single Heartless came out today – how would you describe it?
Heartless is a track about me wanting to be with a guy and him playing a little bit hard to get. It’s just my way of saying ‘Come on, you know you want me, stop playing hard to get!’ to be honest. That’s the vibe of it, but I wanted to make sure that it kept the summertime vibes. It’s still jumpy and bouncy!
You got a number one single with Duke Dumont – how did that feel?! Were you expecting it?
Not in the brightest of days was I expecting that! It was so surreal, but still so good. It’s indescribable.
Is your album finished?
Yep! I’m hoping to get it out either late this year or early next year.
Can you give us any *tiny* little hints about track names?
Haha, I’m afraid not! Things might change, so I don’t want to give anything away just yet…
Is the album packed full of floorfillers like Heartless, or is it more of a mixed bag musically?
Well, I’m a pop singer, so it is mainly pop – there will be various bits and bobs in there, as well as a few things you maybe wouldn’t expect from me!
So, let’s get right back to your roots – what made you want to start making music?
My Dad. He was in a band back home, so I definitely get my interest in music from him. He was mainly into African music, but he also liked Reggae and Pop… He liked a real blend of sounds and styles.
Which song do you wish you had written?
Michael Jackson – Thriller! The video was amazing.
Any plans for a headline tour?
Not yet, but that’s inevitable… Definitely sometime soon!
Describe yourself in three words?
Energetic, happy and fun!
