Marmozets’ New Album Is A Truly Multifaceted Rock Record (And The Best Album Of Their Career)

It really is a pleasure to welcome back Marmozets with their second full-length album, Knowing What You Know Now.

As a band on the whole, there’s a massive development in their creation with their music and of this album; indeed, you just can’t get away from those gritty riffs from Jack Bottomley on lead guitar and Sam Macintyre on rhythm as they weave into the heart of each track. The solid bass lines from Will Bottomley are pretty unavoidable, too. And, in line with his status as one of the best drummers in rock, Josh Macintyre hits it harder than ever before with his signature infectious sound melting its way into those unforgettable drum beats.

For us here at One on One, though, the resounding highlight of this record is frontwoman Becca McIntyre‘s unique vocals.

The way that Becca experiments with the tone and style of her vocals, not only through the album, but throughout each and every song; those interesting quirks combined with wonderfully intelligent and lyrics flipping through a greatly diverse range of themes within each track… Well, they make for a simply unforgettable listening experience.

There is no one side to Marmozets. They are a truly multifaceted band, and one that’s full of everything that the British rock scene needs today. Despite having so many clear influences running throughout Knowing What You Know Now, they pay tribute to them in such a way that still allows them to explore their creativity, retain their individuality as a band, and – most importantly – still sounding undeniably like themselves.

Marmozets have certainly evolved as a band and as individual artists since the release of their debut album four years ago.

Indeed, if you thought that album couldn’t be topped, you need to take 45 minutes out of your day and have a good listen to Knowing What You Know Now. We’ve used a fair few words to say it, but the gist of our review boils down to this: Marmozets‘ second album is a far more well-rounded and diverse piece of musical art than its predecessor. We’re eager to see what the rest of 2018 has in store for them, and can’t wait to watch where they go next after this explosive start to the year.
