GIG REVIEW: Tom Misch’s UK Tour Showed Us Why He’s A Shining Star Of The UK Jazz Scene

If you’re the type who likes to keep your ears to the ground, then you’ll probably be aware of the burgeoning London jazz scene.

If you’re not the type who likes to keep your ears to the ground, then what the hell are you even doing here?

Oh, we jest. We know that some of you just want to come here and be shown some music that our expert team of curators know for sure that you’ll absolutely love; and, there’s nothing at all wrong with that. After all, we like to think that we’re Pretty Bloody Good at providing precisely that service for you. So, for those of you who haven’t heard about it, let us take a moment to explain to you exactly why this little London scene is so flippin’ special.

It’s packed full of top-notch talent, for a start.

Seriously. We can’t believe how many super-talented musicians are pouring out of London right now. You’ve got Zara McFarlane, TRIFORCE, and Jordan Rakei, for a start. Alfa Mist, too. Oh, and need we even mention Yusef Kamaal? Jeez.

Of those guys and girls, though, there’s one act that’s managed to make his way to the top a little quicker than everyone else. One guy who’s somehow leapfrogged his way to Academy stages, despite not even having released a debut album yet. One man who – despite only being 22 years old – has already honed a sound that manages to not only transcend boundaries, but to appeal to a mass audience in the way that certain other ‘leaders of their scenes’ could only dream of.

Yes, dear reader, we’re talking about Tom Misch.

This guy is going places (literally; he’s just announced a UK tour)

If you’re yet to be convinced by the power of Misch‘s creativity, then all you need to do is go and see him live. On record, he’s a talented young man; live, he’s a force of nature, and a truly multi-talented one at that. When he’s not singing like a man possessed, he’s applying funky guitar licks to his jazz-inspired pop beats; when he’s not being drowned out by a horde of screaming girls that have taken up residency in the front row, he’s dancing around the stage in the kinda-cool-but-also-kinda-embarassing way that your favourite cousin does at a family wedding.

He’s young, he’s talented, and he’s only going to get bigger from here: so, make sure you see Tom Misch in Academy-sized venues while you still can. He’s not going to be playing them for much longer.
