These lads have got great taste in tunes
We love a bit of KAWALA here at one on one. After all, why wouldn’t we? They’re clearly talented as hell, and they have a strange knack of writing the kind of acoustically-driven pop songs that make you drop what you’re doing, pick up the nearest guitar, and strum along like a man possessed.
We think that you’re going to adore this one
Now, if there’s one thing we’ve learned over the years, it’s that people who write great tracks tend to have pretty great taste in music themselves. So, with that in mind, we couldn’t resist asking KAWALA to put together a playlist of their favourite songs, exclusively for your listening pleasure. You can find the band’s full playlist at the bottom of this page – but, for now, here they are to tell you a bit about why they chose some of the tracks from their bona-fide brilliant playlist:
Half Moon Run – Call Me In The Afternoon
‘Half moon Run are hands-down one of our favourite bands of all time. We’ve been obsessed with this song from the minute we heard it! Such mad rhythms coming from the multiple drummers, vocal melody and guitar line. How could you not love it?
Bombay Bicycle Club – Shuffle
‘What an absolute banger. Bombay have been a huge inspiration for us both musically – that, and the fact that they’re also proud North Londoners!
John Martyn – Don’t Want To Know
‘We see no shame in claiming that John Martyn is the all time king of the acoustic guitar. This, along with many of his other screamers, have played an insanely important role in the development of Dan’s guitar playing, and forever proved that the acoustic guitar is far from a boring instrument played round a campfire.
Amadou and Mariam – Bofou Safou
‘A band fave. Always first to be put on, whether it be setting up at rehearsal, in the tour van’ or at the shubz.
Beatenberg – Icatha
‘We had the pleasure of meeting these boys while recording our debut EP and we’ve been obsessed ever since. Hailing from South Africa, we can’t get enough of their perfect blend of pop and African-inspired rhythms and guitar.
Like what you’re hearing? Then you’re going to adore KAWALA’s full playlist:
