We’re counting down the hours ’til this one
If there’s one thing we’ve learnt from The Youth, it’s that lists are all the rage nowadays. Frankly, you’d be a fool to deny it. Everyone’s reading BuzzFeed, …, and one of the biggest songs of last year was a bona-fide pop sermon that broke modern love down into four simple, understandable, and synth-laden rules.
So, dear reader, in the spirit of this, we’ve decided to communicate how excited we are about Future Islands‘ show at Bristol’s brand-new St. Philip’s Marsh to you in the form of a handy ‘listicle’. Every list must have a purpose; and, of course, this one is no different. So, without further ado, we present to you a list of reasons why we absolutely cannot wait until Future Islands hit Bristol on July 20th as part of the all-new Skyline Series:
They hardly ever play shows on these shores
Their only other UK show this summer is a festival slot in Macclesfield (?!), and they don’t have any UK tour dates lined up after that; so, this might be your last chance to see Samuel T. Herring and co. for a while.
It’s no exaggeration to say that they’re one of the best live bands in the world
They’ve been around for over fifteen years, and have been smashing slots at festivals like Glastonbury, Bonnaroo and Coachella – not to mention TV shows like The Late Show with David Letterman and Later… With Jools Holland – for as long as this humble writer can remember; so, it seems safe to bet that they’ll be bringing their A-game to Bristol when they touch down there on July 20th.
They’ve got more than enough songs to rise to any occasion
Of course, you don’t get to play those kind of shows unless you’ve got enough great songs to fill them. Fortunately, that’s not something Future Islands struggle with – heck, if anything, their problem is that they’ve got too many great songs. Sure, they may play Ran, The Chase, and North Star, but we can guarantee that they’ll have to leave out a few b-sides and fan favourites; and, at the very least, that a pretty hefty section of gig-goers will be left crying out for more at the end of the band’s set.
And they’re… Well, they’re a little bit bonkers
Do we even need to explain this one?
And they’re being joined by a rather stellar support act
As if the presence of Future Islands wasn’t enough, they’re also bringing Swedish electro lot Little Dragon along for the ride. They are, as it happens, pretty bloody good:
