Surrey’s Second Hand Poet Has Made You An Atmospheric Playlist Of His Favourite Tracks

We can’t stop listening to this one

Meet Second Hand Poet. He’s a singer/songwriter from Surrey, and he appears to have mastered the art of penning gorgeously intimate folk-pop songs that still manage to sound like they were tailor-made to be bellowed back to him by arena-sized crowds. Like this one:

Seriously, this playlist is flippin’ incredible

Now, if there’s one thing we know for sure, it’s that people who write beautiful songs normally know exactly how to put together awesome playlists of other, just-as-beautiful-as-theirs songs by other people. So, with that in mind, we asked Second Hand Poet to put together a playlist of his favourite tunes for us, with the one condition being that it had to be stuffed full of some of the most jaw-droppingly gorgeous pieces of music ever recorded.

Fortunately, he more than delivered. You can find Second Hand Poet‘s full playlist at the bottom of the page – but, for now, here’s the man himself telling you a bit about why he chose a few of the tracks that made the cut:

Elliott Smith – Between The Bars

‘This song is just pure beauty; if there’s one song I wish I’d written it would be this.

Keaton Henson – Lying To You

‘When I first heard Keaton Henson, I just sat looking at my laptop for about half an hour trying to already imagine a world without his music! It was a very grim image. The way Keaton portrays the story in ‘Lying To You’ is so just so beautifully, brutally honest.

First Aid Kit – Ghost Town

‘I remember seeing First Aid Kit at a tiny show years ago at The Boiler Room in Guildford. Not knowing much of their material, I didn’t really know what to expect – then, they played Ghost Town and the whole audience just wanted to cry!

The Beach Boys – God Only Knows

‘Whenever I’m feeling blue, or green… This song is just an injection of love! The lyrics, the sound: goodness, it’s just perfect.

Slade – Everyday

‘Now, whenever I mention that this is my favourite song, people just assume I’m not talking about the same Slade… I personally think that Everyday is one of the greatest songs ever written. It brings genuine tears to my eyes, it’s so emotionally raw and written with such meaning.
