GIG REVIEW: If You Ever Get The Chance To See Indie-Rockers JUDAS, You’d Be A Fool Not To Take It

There’s something undeniably likeable about JUDAS.

We’re not sure what it is, but it’s definitely there. In all honesty, we’ve been trying to put our finger on it since we saw them supporting The Hunna in Bristol last week – but, we haven’t quite managed to nail it down just yet.

Maybe it’s their hair; after all, they do have excellent hair. Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that they’re actually rather good at playing their instruments, too. Alas, call us old-fashioned, but when we see a rock band who can really play the hell out of the various guitars, basses, and drum kits on the stage, we can’t help but to feel like they’ve managed to get their shit together.

Or, maybe it’s just the fact that they write really, really good songs. They’re infectious, and catchy, and instantly memorably; so memorable, in fact, that even one on one‘s plus one (ed. – one on two?) was singing along to each and every one of them them by the time the second or third chorus kicked in.

We may just be missing the point with this one

It is entirely possible, dear reader, that we’re just over-thinking this entire thing. Maybe – just maybe – the reason why we liked JUDAS so much when we saw them at Bristol’s SWX a few days ago boils down to little more than the fact that they’re a really, really good live band.

Like, seriously, these guys have got it. We’ve seen a lot of support bands in our time, and we know how rare it is for a warm-up act to have the crowd in the palm of their hand by the end of their set; yet, somehow, JUDAS managed it. For a crowd to be singing along to every song by the time it finishes is impressive enough; but, for it to happen when the band they’re singing along to only has three tracks available on their Spotify profile? That, dear reader, is pretty bloomin’ remarkable.

They’re only going to get bigger and better from here, too

It’s helpful, too, that the tracks they’ve yet to release are probably the best they’ve ever written. With the exception of set highlight Big Mouth, the strongest songs of their set are the ones that they haven’t put out into the world yet. They’re the ones that got the strongest reaction from the crowd, and for good reason: they’re catchier, meatier, and more well-rounded than anything else that JUDAS have done to date, and we can’t wait until we’re able to cue them up on Spotify and blast them out at full volume.

So, the next time JUDAS roll into your town, make sure you head down and see them. Sure, you may not know the songs – but, when they’re as infectious as the ones these guys write, who cares? You may lose your voice, and you may lose your hearing; but, we can guarantee that you won’t regret it.
