We’re looking forward to seeing the summer off in style
You’ve heard about The Downs Festival, right? It’s Bristol’s biggest one-day music festival, it takes place in a ginormous park in the middle of the city, and it always comes packing a seriously enviable line-up. Like, seriously – these guys always nail it.
What’s that? You don’t believe us? Firstly, how rude; and secondly, we defy you to check out the after-movie from last year’s shindig and tell us that it doesn’t look amazing. Go on, do it. We dare you:
The line-up for this year is, coincidentally, bloody impressive
Now, if there’s one thing we love here at one on one HQ, it’s good ol’ fashioned indie-rock music; so, when we saw the billing for this year’s edition of The Downs Festival, it’s fair to say that we were practically beside ourselves with excitement.
Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds will be closing the show
If ever there was a man who needed no introduction, it’s Noel Gallagher. The living indie-rock legend will be bringing his latest album Who Built The Moon? to Clifton Downs, and we’ve even heard rumours that he’ll be smattering a handful of bona-fide Britpop classics from his old band throughout his set…
And the subtle sounds of Paul Weller will serve as the perfect opener
If the presence of one living legend just isn’t enough to draw you to a festival, then we’ve got good news for you – a certain Mr. Paul Weller will be taking to the Main Stage directly before Noel for what promises to be an hour-long celebration of one of the greatest songwriters this country has ever produced.
Bath boys The Heavy will bring the noise to their comeback show
God, we’ve missed The Heavy. After all, do they not have the whole package? They’re a tight-as-hell live band, their choruses were practically built for festival crowds, and their frontman – Kelvin Swaby – is one of the most charismatic in the game today.
Oh, and their set at The Downs Festival also happens to be their first show in a very, very long time, and it’s taking place a stone’s throw from their hometown of Bath – so, you can be sure that both band and crowd are going to be more than up for it when they take to the stage on Saturday evening. We don’t know about you, but we can’t wait.
Rising star Harvey Causon is someone you don’t want to miss
He’s a favourite of ours here at one on one HQ, and his new music is the best he’s ever released – so, it’s safe to say that we’re more than a little bit excited to see Harvey Causon do his thing at this year’s The Downs Festival.
And electronic legends Orbital will be blowing the roof off of the Avon Stage
If it’s banging beats and good-time bass lines you’re after, you could do a lot worse than to go to an Orbital show. In fact, scrap that: you couldn’t do any better than to go to an Orbital show. There’s a reason why the dynamic duo have kept hold of their legendary status after all these years, and it’s because they’re still at the very top of their game. We can’t wait to catch their set, and we think that you’d be daft to miss it.
