Before we go any further, let’s make one thing painfully clear – Jessie J can sing.
No, we don’t mean that she can ‘sing’ as in ‘she can hold a tune’. We don’t even mean that she can ‘sing’ in the way that, say, Shawn Mendes, Dua Lipa, or George Ezra can sing; that is, to sound thoroughly and undeniably pleasant, and even insert a bit of vibrato/husk/other technical bits ‘n’ bobs into their vocals so that everybody listening is acutely aware that they’re Probably Better Than That Bloke Who Always Plays The Guitar Down The Pub.
Seriously, we couldn’t believe how good she sounded
No, dear reader: what we mean is that, when Jessie J opens her mouth, people stop whatever the hell they’re doing and listen. Gary Barlow once said that she’s one of the best technical singers on the planet right now; and, after seeing her show at Bristol’s O2 Academy at the end of last month, we’re not sure that we’re going to be able to disagree with that statement. Not only did she not miss a note throughout the entirety of her two-hour show, but she held each of them tighter (and longer) than a middle-aged woman would if confronted with an oiled-up Robbie Williams. That, dear reader, is talent.
You definitely don’t want to miss her next tour
If you’re a fan of unashamed pop bangers, hands-in-the-air choruses, and/or surprisingly sultry dance moves from a singer who was ‘marketed’ as being reasonably family-friendly, then you could do a lot worse than to head down to a Jessie J show; and, hey, even if none of those are usually what floats your boat, then you should still make your way to one of her gigs. After all, you’ll still be able to bear witness to one of the best vocalists in the game right now, and you’ll get to spend an evening bopping along to a surprisingly packed set list of ‘Oh shit, I know this one!’-level chart hits.
What, dear reader, could you possibly dislike about that?
