We’re all busy, so let’s just cut to the chase.
Forgive our presumption, but we think that Kawala might just be your new favourite band. They’re a five-piece from London that make the kind of music that The Beach Boys would probably have churned out if they’d spent their formative years listening to Mumford & Sons.
Their new single is called Animals and we think it’s the best thing they’ve done to date. If you asked us to describe it, we’d say that it’s a low-key and harmonic folk-pop song that explodes into a surprisingly catchy chorus. But, if you asked the band about it, they’d probably tell you something like this:
“We wrote ‘Animals’ as a simple reference to the empowerment of escaping a toxic relationship. We tried to balance floaty harmony-based verses that represent the feeling of naive comfort in a negative situation, with more punchy choruses that create more of a sense of breaking free on your own.”
