Synth-Pop Duo (And Songwriters To The Stars) aboutagirl Have Made Us A Playlist Of Their Favourite Songs

You remember Lostboy and Tom Mann, don’t you?

Oh, come on, of course you do. After all, they haven’t exactly been sitting around on their arses for the last few years. When they weren’t writing and producing songs for Lewis Capaldi, Dua Lipa, Rita Ora, Anne-Marie, and Kehlani, they were popping out bops under the umbrella of their own smooth synth-pop duo, aboutagirl. Like this one:

That’s not bad at all, is it?

We didn’t think so either. So, that’s why we couldn’t resist asking Tom and Lostboy to put together a playlist of their favourite songs, exclusively for your listening pleasure. You can find the guys’ full playlist at the bottom of this page – but, first, here’s some insight into why they chose a handful of the tracks in their stellar selection:

Leif Vollebekk – Elegy

Tom – ‘I remember exactly where I was (and how it felt) the first time I heard it. It still feels the same to listen to it now.

The 1975 – Somebody Else

Tom – ‘I think that this is one of those songs you can’t recreate. They captured something special. One of my favourite lyrics ever.

In The Air Tonight – Phil Collins

Lostboy – ‘It’s not the coolest look, but I grew up surrounded by a lot Phil Collins’ (and Genesis’) music – yes: those kind of bands – and I can’t help but think it influenced the kind of sounds we go for in our music. Weird gated reverbs, tight delays, etc… I think that it all stems from there.

Mystery Jets – Two Doors Down

Tom – ‘A bit of a throwback guilty pleasure. I remember driving up to London with my brother-in-law from Southampton when it first came out. We were on our way to a Foo Fighters headline gig at The O2 in London and he showed me the song. I must have made him play it on repeat about 15 times.

Tove Styrke – Borderline

Lostboy – ‘I worked with Tove in Stockholm a couple of years a go and she is just the most inspiring, ‘think outside the box’ kind of artist you could ever imagine. I love the Kiddo album.

Frank Ocean – Ivy

Tom – ‘There’s not much you can say about Frank Ocean that hasn’t already been said! He’s one of the greatest of our time. Most of what he does is unreal, but the feeling and delivery in melody in this song is what does it for me.

Nirvana – About A Girl

Lostboy – ‘Partly where our name comes from. I was obsessed with Nirvana for a few years when I was growing up – I loved how perfectly messy everything felt.
