Lauren Aquilina Embraces Angsty Noughties Pop-Rock On Her New Single, ‘The Knife’

If you’re a fan of old-school Avril and Alanis, then you’re going to absolutely adore this.

Bristol-born singer and songwriter Lauren Aquilina has had a busy few months. Not only has she co-written three – three! – tracks on the new Demi Lovato album, but she’s also found the time to release a vinyl edition of her last EP (2020’s Ghost World) and co-write the irrepressible omni-banger that we all know as ‘LUCID’ by Rina Sawayama.

.

It’s called ‘The Knife’ and it’s a grunge-tinted pop song that comes packing one of the catchiest choruses that we’ve heard for a while.

A vengeful ode to the final straw in a relationship – that one incident that Aquilina describes as ‘the final ammo to properly remove them from your life’ – ‘The Knife’ might just have replaced Kelly Clarkson’s ‘Since U Been Gone’ as One on One’s go-to ‘WE NEVER NEEDED YOU ANYWAY’ post-breakup banger.

And yet, somehow, she’s still managed to casually whack out one of the best pop songs of the year thus far.

So, what are you waiting for? Check out ‘The Knife’ by Lauren Aquilina:
