Here’s Why You Can’t Miss Amigo The Devil Supporting Frank Turner On His UK Tour

It’s fair to say that you might not be familiar with the term ‘dark folk music’.

For the pop-minded amongst you, think Noah Kahan, but if he never left his emo phase. For the traditionalists, imagine a world in which Bob Dylan never really got over his first divorce. And, for those who prefer a more literal explanation, picture My Chemical Romance’s lingering sense of melancholy, then pair it with acoustic guitars, morbid lyrical themes, and beautiful melodies that are more reminiscent of classics from the American folk movement than the heavy metal sonic-smashers that often mirror its lyrical sensitivities.

Or, if you’re looking for an easy way to understand it, you could just take a moment to listen to one of the genre’s shining stars: Miami-born Danny Kiranos, aka Amigo The Devil.

.

He really is rather good, isn’t he?

So good, in fact, that he’s been personally selected by another One on One favourite, Frank Turner, to serve as the primary support on Frank’s supermassive UK tour.

And if you ask us, it’s a match made in heaven. After all, who better to warm up for Frank Turner’s rousing brand of oft-angsty brand of folk-punk-rock than a man whose most recent album, 2024’s Yours Until The War Is Over, contains such feel-good lyrical pearls as ‘But he pulled out a gun like a magician / Well, I’ve also learned some magic through the years / My bullet hocus pocus’ed through the back of his head / And made the side of his jaw disappear’?

And yet, we can almost guarantee that you’ll have a good time. Despite – or, for some, because of – the continuous flow of murder references, it’s pretty hard not to enjoy an Amigo The Devil set. There’s raw energy, world-class songwriting, and regular reminders of the fleeting nature of life on earth – or, in short, everything you could ask for from a night out.

So all that’s left to say, dear reader, is that we think you should head down to your local venue to catch this all-timer of a folk-rock double-header when it rolls through your town. We don’t think you’ll regret it.
