Good News! Tuvaband and Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry Have Collaborated (And Created An Absolute Banger)

Like peanut butter and jelly, and strawberries and cream, a perfect-on-paper collab with Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry crowns Tuvaband the indie-dub queen.

For the latest release on her own label, Passion Flames, Tuva Marschhäuser has collaborated with the legendary Jamaican to reimagine her single, ‘Irreversible. Tuva heralds Perry as being both bold and innovative – not too dissimilar from herself, then.

As Tuvaband, Marschhäuser sets her sights on pushing the boundaries of her musical world, breaking free from the limitations set by genre-purity and the creative void of self-isolation.

She explains that throughout self-isolation, there is little influence on what you perceive from the world, leaving her free to explore the “shadowy spaces” of her mind.

When it came to headhunting the legend for this remix, the Norwegian reached out to the 85-year-old on Instagram to express her awe of his innovative style. Perry is perhaps best recognised for his works with the likes of Bob Marley, The Clash and The Beastie Boys (what a CV!).  Tuva was intrigued by how her signature shoegaze-indie sound would feel with a touch of ‘Scratch’ – and surprise! It works!

Perry’s production and feel transforms the track into the summertime vibe-magnet we’re all so desperate for.

The juxtaposition of dub’s trademark syncopation with Tuva’s quiet introspection and environmental consciousness makes ‘Irreversible’ one of the most self-assured and contemporary sounding dream-pop bops of 2021.
